91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ will make reasonable modifications to its policies, practices, or procedures as necessary to prevent sex discrimination and ensure equal access. Each reasonable modification will be based on the student’s individualized needs. 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ will consult with the student to determine what reasonable modifications are appropriate.  A modification that 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ determines would fundamentally alter the nature of its education program or activity is not a reasonable modification.

  • The following are examples of reasonable modifications provided under Title IX for pregnancy or a related condition can include but are not limited to:

    1. Breaks during class to express breast milk, breastfeed, or attend to health needs associated with pregnancy or related conditions, including eating, drinking, or using the restroom;
    2. Intermittent absences to attend medical appointments; 
    3. Access to online or homebound education; changes in schedule or course sequence; 
    4. Extensions of time for coursework and rescheduling of tests and examinations; 
    5. Allowing a student to sit or stand, or carry or keep water nearby; 
    6. Counseling; 
    7. Changes in physical space or supplies (for example, access to a larger desk or a footrest); 
    8. Elevator access; or 
    9. Other changes to policies, practices, or procedures.

    The Title IX Team will work collaboratively with the student to coordinate an individualized modification plan with faculty and others on campus that best meets their needs in accordance with law and Policy.

  • 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ will allow the student to voluntarily take a leave of absence to cover, at minimum, the period of time deemed medically necessary by the student’s licensed healthcare provider. To the extent that a student qualifies for leave under a leave policy maintained by 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ that allows a greater period of time than the medically necessary period, 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ will permit the student to take voluntary leave under that policy instead if the student so chooses. When the student returns to 91Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ, the student will be reinstated to the academic status and, as practical, to the extracurricular status that the student held when the voluntary leave began.

  • Any person who is aware of or who has experienced any form of discrimination based on pregnancy or a pregnancy related condition may make a report at any time, within or outside of University business hours, to the Title IX Coordinator.

    Reports may be made in person, verbally, by phone, in writing through mail or electronic mail, directly to the report email of titleix@millikin.edu, or any other manner that delivers the information to the Title IX Coordinator at any time.
